Hello, my name is Randy Hobson. I retired in September of 2021 as a full time PDR technician. I started as a PDR technician in 1993. Many things changed along this 30 year journey. I recall in the beginning how PDR wasn't insurance approved and how just about every body shop I walked into didn't want anything to do with me.
Like I said many things have changed since American Family first approved Paintless Dent Repair in 2000 for their customers in hail storms. The first year American Family gave customers a choice Conventional repair methods or Paintless Dent Repair aka PDR. If the customer chose PDR the insurance company paid their deductible if the customer chose the conventional methods they would have to pay their deductible. Well year by year that changed as well did all other insurance comapanies that grew to approve PDR. The last that followed was State Farm, they didn't approve it until 2006.
I spent my first 10 years working for dealerships and body shops in the St. Louis market as my talent grew so did my clientele. In 2001 St. Louis received the largest hail storm in US history. My skills were in high demand, that storm kept me busy doing PDR on vehicles until 2003, however on April 3, 2003 we received another hail storm that would keep me occupied for nearly the rest of the year at that point my mind was made up I wanted to chase hail storms, so i did.
Over the following 20 years I learned much, one of the biggest is it takes an army to make it through a hail storm. After working in collision repair facilities all across the country. I've witnessed many things that go wrong out of the gate that can prove to be detrimental for a shops success during a hail storm. One of the biggest is just ability to keep customers happy, and keep a shop profitable. I can promise... I keep shops profitable... very profitable and I love serving people so taking care of customers is always my #1 goal.
Being profitable isn't just about money. It's about keeping your lifetime customers ecstatic about doing business with you, its about acquiring new customers, its about being known in your community as that "go to guy" simply because the jobs are finished correctly and in the timely manner you promised Todays business has so many more factors than when I first began.
